The Gospel

The word "gospel" means "good news." It is the central message of the Christian faith and the foundation of everything we do at Gospel Community Church.

The good news of the gospel is that through Jesus Christ, sinners can be forgiven, made new, and brought into a restored relationship with God.

The Gospel unfolds in four movements:

God — The good Creator who made us to know Him
The Problem — Our sin has separated us from Him
What God Did — Jesus lived, died, and rose to save sinners
What It Means for Us — We turn to Him in faith and follow Him

God

The Bible begins with God, the one, true, living God who created all things (Genesis 1:1). He is holy, just, and good (Isaiah 6:3; Deuteronomy 32:4; Psalm 34:8). He made people in His image to know Him, enjoy Him, and reflect His glory in the world by showing what He is like (Genesis 1:27; Psalm 16:11; Matthew 5:16; 1 Peter 2:9). Everything He made was good (Genesis 1:31).

The Problem

But humanity rejected God (Isaiah 53:6; John 1:10–11; Romans 1:21). From the very beginning, we chose our own way over His (Genesis 3:6). The Bible calls this sin, and it’s not just something we do; it is part of our fallen nature (Romans 5:12; Psalm 51:5). Every one of us has fallen short of God’s standard — none of us measure up (Romans 3:23). Sin separates us from a holy God, and the consequence of that separation is death and judgment before Him (Romans 6:23; Hebrews 9:27). This is not just a problem for some people; it is the human condition (Romans 3:10–12).

What God Did

But the story did not stay that way.

God, being rich in mercy, did not leave us there (Ephesians 2:4–5). He sent His Son, Jesus Christ — fully God and fully man (John 1:14) — to live the perfect life we could not live (Hebrews 4:15), and to die the death we deserved as our substitute (Romans 5:8; Isaiah 53:5). On the cross, Jesus took the full weight of God’s judgment against sin on Himself (2 Corinthians 5:21). He was buried, and on the third day, He rose from the grave, defeating sin, death, and the power of the grave forever (1 Corinthians 15:3–4; Hebrews 2:14).

This was not Plan B. This was God’s plan from the beginning (Acts 2:23; 1 Peter 1:19–20), to rescue a people for Himself through the life, death, and resurrection of His Son (Ephesians 1:4–5).

What It Means for Us

Salvation is not something we earn (Titus 3:5). It is a gift, received through faith in Jesus Christ alone (Ephesians 2:8–9). To believe the Gospel is to turn from sin, trust in what Jesus accomplished for us on the cross, and follow Him as Lord, trusting His leadership over our lives (Romans 10:9–10; Acts 3:19; Luke 9:23).

When we do, we are forgiven, made new by the Holy Spirit (Titus 3:5; John 3:5–6), and brought into a relationship with God that nothing can undo (Romans 8:1).

Being a Christian means living a life transformed by the power of God (Galatians 2:20), marked by Christ’s love, Christ’s Word, and helping others know and follow Him (John 13:34–35; 1 John 4:7; Matthew 28:19–20).
